Christ of the Abyss sits in John Pennekamp Coral Reef State Park, the first undersea park in the United States. The statue is visible from the surface in good conditions, which is why this tour works for families and first-time snorkelers as well as photographers who want the shot.
The boat runs two stops: the statue at Key Largo Dry Rocks, then a second shallow reef chosen for conditions that morning. Crew get in the water with you, hand out flotation, and point out turtles, rays, and parrotfish rather than leaving you to find them yourself.

The crew put her in a vest, stayed within arm's reach the entire stop, and she saw two turtles. They also sized every mask on the dock so nobody was fighting a leak in the water.

Conditions were flat and you could see the statue before getting in. Second reef stop had more fish than the statue honestly. Boat was full but never felt crowded in the water.

Great tour, well run. Only surprise was that towels are not included and December water wanted a wetsuit. Both are cheap add-ons, just book them ahead.
A Key Largo family operation running snorkel tours in Pennekamp since 2004, with two boats, a full-time in-water crew, and a Blue Star certification for reef-responsible operations.
Basic comfort in water is enough. Every guest gets a flotation vest, pool noodles are available, and a crew member is in the water at both stops. Non-swimmers regularly do this tour.
The statue sits in 15–25 feet of water. On typical days it is visible from the surface, and most guests free-dive down for photos. In rough conditions the captain may substitute another shallow reef.
You get an automatic full refund or a free reschedule to any departure in the next 12 months. The captain makes the call by 7:00 AM and you are notified by text.
No. This is a snorkel-only boat, so nobody is waiting on divers and stops run on the snorkeler's schedule.
